About Me

Stephen

The Short Version

I am an Artist, Writer, Philosopher, and Counsellor. I have a Diploma in European Humanities, a BA (hons) in the Humanities, and a MA in Philosophy. All pretty much useless in the job queue sense (extremely useful in counselling) but forgive me, I don’t get much chance to flash them. I also have an Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling. I am a member of the Society for Philosophy in Practice and a registered Philosophical Counsellor. And, I am a member of the British Philosophical Association. I am a strong advocate for the use of philosophy within the mental health system while the mental health system (in the UK) remains an advocate of the outdated, overworked, theoretically unsustainable, medical model.

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis around 1989. Sometimes I am dyslexic and you may notice that when reading my articles (even though I use a spell checker). Please be kind should you notice a glaring error.

My dear brother who died several years ago was an amazing Artist, Intellectual, and Sculptor. He was also an alcoholic and endured Schizophrenia. I miss him a great deal. My mother was an amazing person who had great charm and wit. She cared a lot for other people.

I am married for the second time - for me it feels like the first. I have two wonderful, beautiful children of whom I am very proud from my previous marriage. My wife has two beautiful daughters that have been very kind in accepting me into their family as my children have done with them.
